Default Plethora of Problems

Hello,

2004 Dodge Neon SXT 2.0L

My drivers side cooling fan is not engaging at all. I pulled off the connection to the fan and put a volt meter on it. I did not get any reading. I then went to the relay box and switched the relay with the one the passenger side fan relay. It still did not work. I then pulled both relays and tested both relay plugs. Fan relay port 1 registers 12.5 volts. Fan relay port 2 does not read anything. I made sure I was putting the volt meter into the 87 and 30 holes. Why is the fan relay port not registering power?

My A/C clutch will not engage. I had to get a value job, because my timing belt broke mid-drive. I did all the work, except the valve job. My A/C worked fine before I did the work. My car was out of commission for about 3 weeks because of the work. Any ideas on what could be wrong with the A/C?

My coolant is boiling in the reservoir when the car is ran for long periods of time. The car is not over heating. Any ideas?

The front end of the car makes a popping/grinding sound when I turn. Does anyone know what this could be?

And finally, what is the best way to clean a sensor connection if it has oil on it?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

When you did the timing belt did you disconnect any sensors on any of the lines or take anything apart on the A/C system?

If not then you could have a leak that may have leaked empty while you were doing work.

Is the coolant boiling out of the reservoir or just boiling inside of it?

And for the front end check the tie-rod ends, sway bar links and bushings, and ball joints. As those are typical failure points.

I'm assuming you're cleaning your sending unit connector (which I hope you replaced your sending unit as well). Brake clean works great.

No, I didn't even mess with the A/C. Thank you for suggesting leaking. That would explain why the compressor will not engage, right? I did have to jack up the car and manipulate the hoses and lines. I may have cause it to leak. I heard of using a paper clip to jump the compressor long enough to refill the 134. Is this right?

The coolant is just boiling inside of the reservoir.

The front end sound like a lot of work, I will take a look at the things you suggested.

I replaced the oil pressure sensor, is this the same as the sending unit? I was getting an oil light whenever the car was at idle. I still get the oil light when the car has ran for a long period of time, I am thinking it is related to the connector being dirty with oil. I tried getting at the connector with q-tips and alcohol, but that did not seem to work.

Yes if you're low on refrigerant the compressor will not engage in order to protect itself. I would recommend actually bringing it to a shop to get diagnosed because it is not easy to do without the proper tools.

I'm not sure what to say about the coolant boiling, I guess I would verify thermostat operation and make sure it isn't overheating.

And yes the best way to clean that connector is brake clean, a can is usually around 4 dollars for the good stuff and it comes in very handy.
