Default Filter with pics

I had asked questions on how to set this up and if you could modify the stock filter box as a heat sheild / to hold the filter in place.

I had to rig mine with these two brackets which look stupid which you can see in the 1st picture.

How would I go about "blowing" this filter clean, from the inside out?

It looks as if there is corrosion white / brown and other crap on some of the peices under the hood.

I will make a separate post but, i may as well ask here.
How should I go about cleaning this stuff with out spraying water under the hood?

Some people so using a power washer or just a hose wont hurt any thing others say you need to be VERY careful.

That corrosion makes me think you either live back East or near the coast. You could clean it with a wire brush, but it'll be back unless you protected the metal with something after cleaning it.

I don't understand how it could be salt and if it is how it can get all over these parts.
My top motor mount had some on it.

The other day some of the paint on my windshield wiper arm, the paint was bubbled so I picked the paint off.
Under the paint there was a white corrosion or something
