Default 2005 sxt -front & rear strut replacement

just got news from mechanic that front and rear struts need to be replaced (along with some other suspension parts - sway bar etc.) totally a wapping $1465! $450 +/- is labor... OUCH!

So looking at options to perform the work myself (enlisting the assistance of a few, more knowledgeable friends) to save (quite) a few bucks.

Anyone recommend any upgraded suspension parts or should I just stick with OE parts? Oh yeah... without breaking the bank and going overboard...

This car is stock, app. 81,000 miles and in great shape - my daily commuter to and from work. No real need for upgrades other than 'might as well enjoy this car since it looks like I'll be driving it a bit longer' .

Thanks for any suggestions.

You'll need an alignment afterwards if you're doing struts most likely.

And if you're doing struts you'll need a way to compress the springs.

Why do you NEED struts?

questioning weather i truly needs struts - nothing is broken or leaking...
i am thinking it just needs another alignment - I am losing faith in this 'mechanic' / shop
