Smile shopping for a neon at dealership

when i was looking around for a neon 2002-2004 most of them had about 1150-130,00 miles and prices were around 3400.00 . i tried to talk them down to 2500.00 or 2,000.00 .they dont even budge. anyone on here ever had that problem whne going to a used car dealership...

think buying from private owner is the best bet..

What's the fair market value? That's the only way to determine the correct price. You have to figure the dealership is also charging some money for the employees and time/product/parts to buy, clean, inspect, condition, repair, list and sell the car.

Private party generally excludes all of the above.

If anything make them show you a maint list dated the day they did anything to the car other then spray used car cologne, wash/de-grease it that way you have some haggle proof to chew'm down on price. Esp updated wear & tear items since they get parts at cost or better.

for the prince that high @ $3-3400 anything that old better have new brake pads, fresh turned rotors, both belts and almost near new tires, & polished head lamp lenses if not new ones from a dealer/stealership.. cost of fuel is low at the time, they will push up to 3600-4k once peak fuel consumption season kicks in.

I'm shoppin for an 80's 4 runner with a 22r and so far anything I have found is thru the roof if it don't have 200k on the chassis

I bought my POS 2000 Neon for 1800, and my peak condition 2005 Neon for $5480.If you can find a '04 for 3400, it's a steal.
