Default Intake resonator

So I was wondering if taking the intake resonator and the top of the air box would cause anything to happen? Of course other than sound sweet. I heard that u can gain a small amount of hp by doing so and changing the filter. So will this make the car run to hot or will I be alright?

The intake resonator/silencer does nothing. I've still yet to find an exact, purposeful cause for them. As for the airbox lid, yes it will sound "cooler," but you'll also be sucking in hotter air which always leads to poorer performance.

That was my main concern was the heat. I figured it would suck in the hot air from the motor. As far as the resonator I wasn't quite sure if it had any other purpose than to silence. Is there anything as far as a hp gain with stock motor that I could do?

By the way thanks for the help. I have just recently started to modify my neon and need some pointer. As far as any perfomance other than stock I am tapped out. Thanks for any help.

What year is your Neon? '03-'05 is kinda screwed as far as bolt-on performance goes due to the NGC computer system.
