I just got a 05 SXT and the engine blew at about 14000 miles. I dont know whether i can trust the engine to hold up to any performance mods. I already have a k@n drop in and 2 1/4" catback exhaust. Plz share ur knowledge about neons and whether or not u can swap anything from 97ish talons or eclipses or even EVO 8's. I'm in desperate need of help cuz i cant live with havin a slow car and i know neons are good project cars,i just havent got the knowledge when it comes to my new neon and performance.... I want the cosmetic work ive done on the outside to reflect whats under the hood. Help me out

 

Before we really talk about additional work, did they replace your engine? 14 thousand miles?????
What was the cause? Did u not break the engine in?

U can do a lot to the Neons. U can do more with a Honda but u still have a lot of options with the Neon[X(].

How did you blow your engine would be my first question. I take excellent care of mine...but I do push hard from time to time...and seems to like it the more I push it.

 

A good place to look for a various amount of good mods to all kinds of cars can be found by looking at what other people have done... and what people plan to do. That gives you a feeling of what is out there already and price range your looking at for the parts.

The neon, IMO, has already proven its worth while i have been subjecting my thoughts on mod after mod to put on it (even though my brain is bursting... right now the only thing holding me back is my budget). Heck, if you wanted to go all out... like in your case... you can either completely rebuild the engine with high performance parts along the way, or get a new 2.0 liter... (trust me... they arent too hard to find) or even grab a turbo, like an SRT-4's 2.4 liter, or something and drop it in while you have to take engine out anyways. That would give you an awesome platform to begin some HUGE mods towards your goal burnt rubber and kicked @**'s. Truely, when it comes to aftermarket... you could not dream of how endless the aftermarket can really be for what you want to do.

Ofcourse you reach your limitation on how much you can shove under that hood... always are. But, like previously stated, there isnt much else you couldnt do to a honda than to a Neon.

As for you, enjoy your blown up engine (trust me... hehe... if you have the time and money, it only GIVES you an excuse to dive into the engine compartment...) and I hope it all gets fixed.

P.S. poke your head around ebay or check on the sites he listed above for engine parts. Even dig around a junkyard or too (neons are a pretty common car to see around there.... hrm.... brings so many questions to mind...) anyways, just poke your head around a bit, see what ya find. Got q's, post them here and everyone will be more than happy to post a comment or 2... helpful or not [sm=signs003.gif]

 

yeah 14k....i tbroke the motor in and had a alot of highway mileage on it and of course i took it to the strip but nothin that would seem unreal. i kid u not... i snapped 1 and 4 c rods damaged 1 and 4 pistons scarred the cylinder walls bent the valves and warped the crank and i swear that i was casually pulling away from a stop light......NOT RACING.So from all that i got a new short block and a rebuilt head
