my wife just got a 01 neon and it has 142.00.bought it cheap=300 body is in greatshape...found out the own was a pizza delivery guy..=possible beating on it.. ok was told the timming belt was replaced..Im not going to take a persons words for it unless they have proof..a day ago the oil light pop on at stop..then went away ..do it twise...told he i bet the oil pump is ready to go..we got a timming belt kit commimg in..told the wife lets get the oil pump too....shes to the point to lets buy a low miles motor and tranny for it..I have a 88.000 mile 2.0 in my garage..but was told it wont work..was told 96-2002 will fit...does anyone know this??

 

Any motor from a non R/T Neon in the 00-02 model years.

 

I believe you can swap any motor and trans in the chassis, as long as you have the PCM and wiring harness with the swap. Iv'e seen 98 year neons with srt 4 powertrains in them.

While this is true, it's more for enthusiasts. If you're just swapping the same motor, use a motor from a 00-02 non rt neon. Most people with the srt motors in their 98 neon are using some form of aftermarket ecu, usually mega squirt.

I myself have seen 1st gen neons with a 2.7L V6 running NGC code.
