Default trans shift solenoid replacement

I have a 02 es 161k. Shift solenoid leaks pack and gasket. My question is, why does my solenoid have 2 dowles and new ones have 3? I ordered one from a CHRYSLER van that has 2 dowles so there's no problems. I hear that when you install th pack the dowles will draw into the pack. This true?

That's a Dodge engineer question. My guess: it has to do with the solenoid pack updates. That's probably not even close to being right, but I didn't make the darn things, lol.

I think i remember reading where you press the dowel flush? I'll try to find it and post the link. Allpar.com has some good info on the transmission and solenoid pack
