Default ignition key comes out at any position

as per the title, I found that the ignition key comes out at any position, the car can be started and turned off.

One good thing is I can start my car and remove the keys to warm it up

However, I tried my spare key and the same thing happens, when I put a DIFFERENT key for example the caravan, the key goes in and and only turns one position but can't turn back, I can put the real key in and turn it back.

So looking I think I can work out how to replace the cylinder, does it just need cleaning, repair or is it worn? If I get another cylinder, is it easy to re-key myself

any ideas on prices?

thanks

OH I'm assuming its the cylinder and NOT the lock inside?

That sucks I hoped to chime in and tell you to have a new key made.
I had a worn key for one of my cars and did the same, warmed it up and took the key out lol.

Just dont leave your car unlock, having a worn ignition will make it easy for someone to steal it :P

thanks guy's

however I've found another side effect of this..

(already posted another question which is related)

When I turn the key to off, then pull it as I usually would, the radio (RBK CD)
doesnt seem to be fully powered of !

So you get the time, and it stays on, even when opening the door, and returning, say in an hour, this resukted (after 2 days) of a dead battery,

I also pulled the IOD fuse (radio) and this seems to have done the trick... no extra draw to flatten battery

So I think the cylinder other than being worn is also not fully switching the accesories off when you pull the key out in that position

I also now cant push back the IOD fuse. DOH
