Hope someone can help me please. My son has broken down far from home and is not mechanically minded. The power steering has stopped working. He tells me the belt is not present. I assume this was loose and came off. As I do not work on his car (2001 Neon ES) I do not know if there is one belt that drives all components or is there 2? If there is 2 I suppose it is likely he can drive home without power steering and A/C assumming that the second belt drives the alternator? Can someone please clarify.
If he takes this to a repair shop approximately how much might they charge to replace the belt?

You are correct. One belt drives the power steering and A/C compressor. The other drives the alternator. The alternator belt will have to be removed to install the other belt, but I can't see a shop charging more than around $50 to install a belt. Should be less than .5 hours labor.
