My exhaust system is bone dry stock, what I'm wondering is: in order to benefit from a new exhaust, do I have to put in new downpipes, headers and the like? Will a high flow muffler do the trick if I apply it to the stock system? I'll be applying applying a CAI here soon, and I'm not sure how this will affect the throughput of my exhaust.

 

What kind of car do you have? A full exhuast from the motor back is going to be the best choice if you have the money. You might lose a litte low end power, but thats only going to be in 1st gear if its a MTX.

 

I'm driving a 2000 Neon MTX. I'm just wondering how much money I'm going to have to sink into this project. I think I can get by on a muffler for now, but if I'm going to start replacing downtubing, I may have to end up putting headers in there to get the full benefit.

 

I have a 98 MTX neon. I have a kirk racing long tube header($200), no cat, and pacesetter cat back exhaust( $200). I have not dynoed the car, but I picked up maybe 8-10HP.
