my 03 Neon SXT a/c does not work very well at highway speeds over 55mph, it cools just not very well. I have checked the Freon on the low side and the pressure is around 45lbs.. It cools pretty good just idling around.. It has 50,000 miles on it and the mechanics of the car sounds good, condenser is clean, can't tell about the evaporator. I've had the car about a year and it has had the problem since day one that I have owned it
any ideas?

need to find out what the pressure is on the high side and 45 on the low side sounds way to high, have you ever added freon to it when there was next to no freon in it?

 

thanks for the reply, the freon never has been that low, I just added a lb or two as I thought the best low pressure was around 40-45 lbs. The car is on loan to my sister-n-law while her van is in the shop so I cannot check the low side. I bought the car last July with 30,000 miles on the clock and it was cooling like that then, ok but could be better.
