How to read codes without a reader
im new here and have seen many threads say something to the effect of "get a code reader or have a parts house read if for you". There is a trick that works where you dont need a code reader.
I found this trick while working on an 05 caravan and decided to try it on my neon just to see if it would work. I dont know which years it will/won't work on but it does for my 03 so i thought id share.
All you have to do is turn the key to the on position (dont turn it all the way to start) as soon as the dash lights up, turn the key off, Repeat this 3-4 times about a half second on about a half second off, leave the key on and look at your odometer it should now start giving you codes. It will give them in order something like "P2302, P0522, done" writhe them down then google your car followed by the code (example: 2003 dodge neon p0132) and you should hit many sites that tell you what they mean.
I live 20 miles from a part store and this little trick saves me 45 minutes plus every time i use it.
