Dropped the oil pan and found this part, anyone know what this is?

 

I was wondering if anyone has ever broken down the oil pump. That is the only thing I can come up with as the source of this piece but not sure. I looked at build kits for oil pumps and nothing looks like this in the pictures. These kits were for pumps used in other cars not the Neon so I am at a loss. I am in the process of replacing engine internals and I don't know if I need to add a oil pump or whatever this piece came from. Thanks you for any input.
