02 SXT Limp mode
Just bought this sweet ride for $100.
Ill start by saying that I'm a professional mechanic, and I have searched and read quite a bit, and physically have not diagnosed a whole lot on the car yet.
previous owner stated the transmission was replaced. fluid clean and full
a sticker on the relay box states the PCM was replaced
car was sitting for 1+ year, battery dead when I bought it
speedo and tach quit working today
only have 2nd gear and reverse
code P0700-trans fault- Ive cleared it and retested a few times but it comes back immediately

my question is- is there a relearn procedure, or a process of elimination for troubleshooting? The lack of alternator makes me hesitant to try diagnosing the issue if the PCM isn't getting 12+volts. is it worth looking into this issue before installing an alternator? I do have the GRAY ignition key, but i'm pretty sure my boss has the Chrysler software needed to flash, if needed.
i'll be replacing the alternator Monday or Tuesday to eliminate that problem. is my guage cluster related to any of this or do I now need a cluster also?
I'm not the type or person to throw parts at something until it works, and I haven't found too many solid threads on the subject. everyone says replace this, replace that, and nobodys had any results, and I'm not dumping a bottle of potion into the gas tank.
help would be appreciated, and if any of you neon guys have done this 37 times, youre who id like responses from. my number is 612-250-3903 if youre drinking and it would maybe be easier to just call me, for response time sake.
