Default adjusting timing tensioner

When your tighten the timing tensioner do you always turn until it doesn't turn anymore? How loose should the belt be after install, I can move it less then a 1/4".

You're answer should be in the shop manual.

It says to align the spring tang and setting notch. I think I went a little further then that because I heard a pop ( I coundn't tighten any more) and removed my 1/4" ratchet from the tensioner and the tensioner didn't loosen. I tighten the center nut. I turned the timing belt by hand 4 times. There's no noise from the tensioner. Did I go to far, has anyone else set it this way?
