Hello, I drive an '05 Dodge Neon SXT. For the past few months, it has been rattling with clunking sounds while accelerating. It would not accelerate past 60mph on the freeway, and has extremely slow acceleration from stop.
It accelerates slow even when flooring the gas pedal.
It also does a hard start whenever I turn on the ignition.
The engine light has been on.
I thought it would not hurt to ask you guys here, since I am not skilled and have limited knowledge with cars.

My first thought is cam sensor, I had similar issues and from what ive read and experienced your symptoms sound like cam sensor, take it to autozone or oriellys and have them read the codes they will pull codes for free, it should tell you what direction to go. cam sensor is easy to replace gotta pull battery to gain access and four bolts/plug.

 

first thing I would do is see what the code is a cam sensor could be the cause but also with poor acceleration and the rattling and knocking it could be the sign of a clogged up catalytic converter causing the engine to have to much back pressure let us know when you find out what the code is
