First post, just signed up. I am working on my '04 Neon SXT. I am replacing the 3 motor mounts and took a look under the timing cover because there was a water leak dripping out of that area that started shortly after replacing the timing set and water pump some time back. I spotted a small leak at the thermostat housing on my way in to change the mounts, I could see the track at the lower end of the housing. Since I was in there I figured I would check under the cover. No sign of a leak there but the leak above was running into the cover a little and out the bottom. The pump was okay so I started to reassemble and add the new mounts. I put in the center mount and put the new alternator belt on and then was fighting to get the Engine mount bracket back in. Much to my dismay I discovered a 2-1/8" x 7/8" rubber plug lying on the floor. just as I got the mount bolts back in the bracket. I have no idea where it goes and would of course like to put it back in. I don't want to go any further with the re-assembly until I figure out what this part is, and where it goes. I really don't like working on this area and want to be done with it! Anybody know where it goes? Maybe I backed the alternator tensioner off too much and it fell out from there? I don't see anywhere on the timing cover it would fit. I have been working the engine around because for some reason this Neon seems to be harder to work on in this area than the other ones I have worked on with friends. Any ideas? I really want to get this back together while the weather in Colorado is nice! Any help appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Replying to my own post. I just figured it out. It is a bumper that was on the aftermarket center motor mount at the top. It goes between the motor mount bracket and the mount, above the motor mount bolt. Doh!
