Bring Back The Neon!!
Hi,
I am in the process of modifying my Neon to give it a "pimped out" look.
I don't really like the "basket handle " style spoiler as seen on most SXt's and SRT'4's.
I prefer the R/T "wing style" spoiler which is what I'm hoping to install on mine.
If they were to use the same platform (gen 2's)but modified the body to make the doors larger for a 2 door version, they could easily make a 2 door coupe and a convertible model.
With the early versions ('94-'99) the 2 door version was not quite as attractive as the 4 door.
Having previously owned a '95 Neon, I noticed many things that I like better on my '03.
I'm not lucky enough to have fog lights or the power moonroof on mine ('03) but I'll have to make due. Dodge really dropped the ball by discontinuing the Neon. At least Chevy had the right idea when they discontinued the Cavalier and replaced it with the Cobalt.
The main things the Neon needs/needed is a larger fuel tank (i believe they only hold like 12 Gallons) and a "billet style" color matched fuel door (on coupe models)
I hope Dodge will reconsider their decision...maybe if someone from Dodge sees these posts from devoted Neon owners/fans like us, they just might.

yeah... my bad, the Anvenger is returning. But still, the avenger was a sleak looking car and it's reincarnation is a boxy SUV looking thing? Dubya-Tee-Eff! My biggest issue w/ the Calibur is the tranny choises. A six speed manual? GREAT... but ONLY on the 1.8L SE and SXT. The 2.0L and 2.4L BOTH have the CVT2 transmition. NO manual available.
this is why Dodge NEEDS to bring back the Neon, because we believe that they're heading off in a horrible direction. The only direction the new path leads is to soccer moms and yuppies. The enthusiast market is still pretty big with some of the stuff that's on the market right now, but the new stuff that's set for release is complete and utter crap. The SRT-4, the SRT-10, the viper, the Magnum, the Charger, it's all great stuff. This new stuff is horrible and I refuse to buy it.
Hi,
What Dodge needs to do is to "go back to the drawing board" so to speak.
Look at how well Ford is doing with the Mustang. It's been redesigned and still
continues to sell extremely well. Look at Chevy's Corvette, they sell very well also.
Dodge needs to take a lesson from the other guys. Bring back the Muscle car
but with the same style curves and with the power of the musclecars of yesteryear,
not the crappy SUV's & so called sport wagons. Dodge did OK with the Charger but hey......
It ain't the General Lee.
If Dodge decides not to bring the Neon back maybe they can bring back a car with
some ***** like....the Barracuda or perhaps the Road Runner. Maybe they could
resurrect the Dart or even the Duster. Anything is better then the crappy SUV/Sport wagon/fugly looking thing that they're replacing the Neon with.

Hi,
Here's my picture of what a Neon Convertible might look like if the used the
existing platform. Keep in mind that this is just a rough idea though.

it's not too bad looking with the top down. I'm afraid to think what it might look like with the top up. The beetle and the PT cruiser looked good with the top down but when the top came up they looked funny and out of place. Another thing about a soft top is that they tend to leak more than a hard top would, also sound bleeds into and out of them a lot more. The convertible is a cool idea, I'm just not sure I like it.
One thing I like about my car is that its got the sport alloy wheels that were discontinued after only one year. I like my wheels more than the steel ones, hell I even like them better than the SRT-4 wheels. Granted, they're only 14" wheels, I'd buy them in a 17" if they made them.

So the original Neon wiped up the track, as designed, with every competitor in its class, even those costing 2-3 times as much. And y'all want it's 2nd gen overweight gay brother back with autostick and convertible? The Neon was rice enough in its final days (SRT lookalike package anyone?)... It's bad enough that the Mopar-loyalist "performance enthusiast" believes that the "Sport" package offered on any of the Dodge/Chyrsler/Jeep vehicles (leather shift ****, bigger rImMzZ y0!, rear wing, foglights, etc.) actually has anything to do with actual performance. A redesigned convertible automatic Neon would be about as exciting as an old Chrysler TC (by Maserati!) on a track/course, which isn't saying much. But it would probably at least put the Neon in H-Stock where it would almost be competitive again.
The SRT-4 was an awesome thing when it came out. 230ish HP from the factory for under $20k. Too bad Chrysler had done it once before with the Spirit R/T, 10 years earlier... and too bad the price didn't stay under $20k for very long... and too bad a half dozen other cars came out within 2 years with more power, better handling, and less out-the-door cost...
Forget soccer moms. 2900 people per day in America are turning 60 now (read it in USA Today this morning), put grandparents at the top of the list, many of them now taking care of grandkids and great-grandkids for whatever reason. An inexpensive wagon/SUV is suddenly very attractive, and cars like the Matrix and Mazda3 aren't going to be shelved anytime soon. That target audience is huge, and still relatively wealthy. Those that aren't busy babysitting want the cars that were new and exciting when they were young adults 40 years ago... Mustang... Corvette... Charger... Thuderbird... and they want as many luxury (aka "Sport") features they can afford - chrome, leather, gauges, badging, metallic paint... and they don't want to put too much stress on their aging limbs, so 5- and even 6-speed automatics are very easy to find on those bigger "Sports" cars nowadays... Face it, the Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation whatever else is coming just isn't going to get the attention of any of the big car manufacturers with their high school degrees and $12-16/hr jobs. And young drivers (under 25) making small cars the landslide in vehicle fatalities year after year (over 40% of those being single car accidents, by the way) doesn't help things either.
Screw the Neon, I'd rather see the Pinto come back.
