Should I switch to synthetic oil
Hello everyone, would appreciate any advice, I recently purchased a 2005 dodge neon sxt with 124000 miles, I drive about 95 miles a day commute for my job, I try to change oil around every 3000 miles, ( sometimes almost 4000) I was taking to someone recently about Amsoil , how it's good for 20000 miles, is this really true? And it will increase mpg? Especially if I use Amsoil synthetic transmission fluid, WITH the mileage I drive in a year, if I could go 8 to 10 months on an oil change that would be awesome, has anyone switched to Amsoil here? Your thoughts? Pros? Con's? Is 125000 miles too much mileage to switch to synthetic oil?
You should be able to switch to synthetic since my '05 owner's manual says we can use either that or regular oil. The two are now priced about the same so could go synthetic and change the oil & filter every 7,500-8,000 miles since it is a small engine.

I've never seen any advantage to going with Amsoil. They buy oil from the same refineries the other oil companies do. I'm not saying it isn't good oil, it's been a round a long time. It's like the oiled air filters like K&N filters. They do what they say, but the greater flow rate isn't anything you can take advantage of as your engine doesn't flow that much air.
First find out how much oil you burn if any.If the engine uses oil, especially if it's burning it, I'd go with what is cheaper. I've got a PT Cruiser (Taller version of your car) and it leaks a little oil. (I have a new gasket set for it.) If you're burning oil, go cheap. With high mileage engines I prefer to change the oil every 3000-4000 miles. You have internal wear so fresher is better.
