Steering Whining Noise
Hi everyone, I have a 2001 Neon RT. Basically, when I turn the steering either fully to the left or right (i.e full lock) and move forward, there is a loud whining/groaning noise. As soon as i move off of full lock - even just a little bit, the noise goes away. Is this normal? And any ideas what it is please :-)

agreed. You shouldn't be turning your steering wheel all the way in either direction. If you need to be turning that much, turn it all the way and then back off about an inch or two and it should stop screaming at you.
Hello, Its full, so I guess normal. Its fine unless I turn it full lock - which I haven't done since :-)

The reason fo the extra noise is when you go full left or right the system goes to max pressure and dead heads (No Flow) and should not maintain this position for more than 10 seconds and if you back off 1/4 turn or less you will not loose much turning radius. Completely normal on almost all power steering systems. Relative noise to the cabing has many variables from pump design and sound deading material.
