code 0171 too lean
I have a 2000 neon with the 2.0. Once the car is warmed up and running for a little bit it will stumble and eventually die, and not start back up for about a hour. The car has 121,xxx miles.
I did a search and saw that there are about 3 possible problems that a code 0171 could be. the fuel filter/regulator, o2 sensors or the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel filter/regulator and the same problem still exsit. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a for sure answer to the problem with out spending money on parts that arn't needed. I oviously can't test the o2 sensors when the car is having the problem cause it won't stay running, same with fuel pressure. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could also have leaks in the areas around the O2 sensors.
Try swapping the upstream sensor with the downstream one. You'll get a CEL for the d/s sensor (shorter wire, you aren't going to be able to hook it up), but that alone won't make the car run icky... The upstream sensor is the primary input for fuel trim. The d/s sensor plays a minor role. The 2 sensors are slightly different, but should swap fine and work fine.
You can still hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. if you can get the car to turn over for 30 seconds, you should know by then whether or not you are geting the 49 psi you should be.
If it is the fuel pump, don't get a stock replacement. The Walbro 255 lhp unit is only $110 from www.howellautomotive.com, www.modernperformance.com, ebay, etc. Much cheaper...
Best of luck!

I hooked up a pressure gauge and ran it up to the windsheild and drove the car while it was running so poorly and the fuel pressure would drop below 20psi frequently. going to replace the fuel pump.
Is the walbro a direct replacement? This car is just stock and a daily driver do a performance pump isn't needed. And if I could get a new pump from a auto parts store under 200 wouldn't that be the better way to go? What do you guys think?

I replaced the fuel pump, so far the car is running great. well have to see in a couple of days if that is the real cure. thanks for the help. Hopefully this tread will help people in the future that have the same problem.
