Stuts And Radio
I know these are two completely different things, but bear with me.
I need new suspension all the way around, however I was thinking of lowering a little, so can I buy stock Struts and install R/T suspension on them and just have it lowered the inch or so they do??? Also Does anyone know if the stock radio has preouts on it???? I have a 2000 with the upgraded radio and 4cd changer if this helps.
Thanks,
Justin

The stock R/T springs are the same length as what you have, they will not lower the car. The R/T struts are marginally stiffer valved, and the springs are a slightly higher rate. The stock ACR springs are the same as the R/T springs, but you get the adjustable struts. If I remember right, the base/touring rear struts do not have provisions for a sway bar (please correct me if I'm wrong, it happens
)
What are you looking to get from the suspension? a little better handling on the street? looking cooler? autocross? How much do you care about ride quality? The more performance you want, the worse the ride quality. The more lowering you want, ditto. how much do you want to spend? A quality setup will not be cheap. A cheap setup will not perform or ride well.
The stock 1st gen ACR/RT springs will drop you a little over an inch, and have the same spring rates as the 2nd gen ACR/RT's (150/120 front/rear). Handling will not be greatly improved with just this though. Even adding stock R/T swaybars will not be a massive difference (the R/T is a "sporty" car, but not a competition car). ACR struts would be a huge step up. And a complete coilover setup would be even better. The 1st gen springs you can pick up for under $100 easily. 2nd gen R/T struts (or aftermarket equivalents like KYB) should only be $300 or so, \ACR struts will run you $700+. Stock sways maybe $200 used, or aftermarket sways for a little more. A complete coilover setup will run around $1k from www.phantomhp.com (height adjustable, camber adjustable, new camber plates up front, compression/rebound adjustable with a single know, a truely competitive setup).
If the 2nd gen radio is the same as the 1st gen and the Ram, there are no preouts...
Best of luck!
