If I consistently pull shifts in the 5000 rpm range, is it detrimental to the engine? I tend to shift around 5500 on a pretty consistant basis. I just want to make sure that I am not going to hurt anything.

you should be fine doing that...i on average, shift at about 6000...and no problems yet
