They werent meant to tow anything big, but there is (was) a factory towing package available on the neon to tow around 2,000LB.

I know they aren't meant to tow, but my truck tranny is out and
i can get the hitch for 100$ and a 300Lb trailer for 200$ then i
can put my brand spankin new suzuki drz400sm(300Lbs) on it
when the wife and i need to drive sep. to our parents 5 hours
away.... we could have quality time! and it is only <600LBS
maybe 3x/year

there WAS a factory tow package???
