Im having trouble putting the power steering belt back on to my 2002 neon. Im not quite sure where the tentioner is. I believe its the pully between the power steering sproket and the engine sproket but i cant figure out how to loosen it to get the belt back on. Instructions or a picture of the schematic will help alot thanx

 

Here is a pic from the FSM. Instructions are as follows:

1) Install belt over all pulleys except for the power steering pump pulley.
2) Using 17 mm wrnech, rotate belt tensioner clockwise until belt can be installed onto power steering pulley. Release spring tension onto belt.
3) After belt is installed, inspect belt length indicator marks. The indicator mark should be within the minimum belt length and maximum belt length marks. On a new belt, the indicator mark should align approximately with the nominal belt length mark.

You should get yourself a factory service manual. I found mine online, unfortunately I don't remember where or I would tell you. It is for a 2000 Neon but most of the small details that changed over the years don't affect the content of the manual.

 

i would but im not keeping the car for much longer.

havent started looking yet. hopefully somethign with a stick. the only reason i have the neon is because it was the only thing they could give me with my credit at the time. that was about 2 years ago. im thinking maybe a VW or maybe another Honda since they've been good to me in the past.

 

Honda and VW are both excellent brands. Between the two I think I would have to say Honda. While I would say quality is equal between the two, VW tends to be a tad pricey. Honda also has a little more choice. Either is a good choice, though I tend to be biased towards Daimler Chrysler due to my Neon and in large part to my dad's Hemi Ram

 

ya. im going to look around. i know what my price range is and what features i really want and see what i can find. The neon has been pretty good. a little bit more trouble then my previous compared to how new it is compared to those (83 accord, 85 accord, and 89 olds) but not exactly what i want. and also kind of a turn off that it couldnt handle what i did to get myself in this mess about the belt in the first place (accelerating thru a semi windy onramp) but i dont think many a cars would cept maybe a mini (which would be a nice possibility if i can find a good one in my range). also, by the way, it looks like they've kind of changed the tentioner pully on the 2002 now instead of that 17mm nut it has a little nipple on it that you can put a wrench on (as long as its short enough, theres a metal line about 4 inches away) that you can leverage and get it on. but thanx for the tip. it help tremendously. i thought i was going to have to drive it to my dads house (about 30 miles away) with no power steering or A/C and have him help me put it one
