Default Radio

Just baught a 2002 Neon and was looking to replace the stereo. I work as a full time mechanic but don't often mess with radios so I have a question. My question is: I heard that the stock neon radio is a 1.5 din, if this is so, does it mean an aftermarket 1.5 din radio will be a direct fit, other than wiring of course? And if so any recommendations on a video monitor? I'd like to stay away from anything that will block the hvac controls. Thanks.

Any aftermarket radio will need a mounting kit of some sort to fit it in properly with the plastic surround. As far as the monitor, I've never seen anything that would flip down, which would be what you need to avoid the HVAC controls.

I was thinking something like this, but if a 1.5 din aftermarket would fit, than I'd find something similar only larger to make use of the space.

The stock location of the radio isn't really that suited for a screen. If you really want one I would suggest a separate one mounted some other place in the car. Just my two bits though.

All in dash video units come out and flip up, that is what he does NOT want because when the screen is up the driver is unable to control the HVAC *****.

Do you want the video screen just to have the screen, or are you planning on watching DVD's or something? So do you want something like this?

What exactly is that, a stock gps? Yes I would like to watch dvds and probably use the screen for other things, and aftermarket is what I'm looking for because of the extra features and extra inputs and outputs. But yes something of that general orientation is what I'm looking for.

Yeah thats the DCx RB4 GPS that uses a CD-ROM...however, the one you weould want is the RB1, i'm not positive, but you *might* be able to watch nomal DVD's on them as well since it has "DVD Controls" listed as one of the features (RB1) ....just google "Daimler-Chrysler RB1" or something like that and you should be able to find info very easily...the RB4 sell on ebay for $300 used, or $450 new, and the RB1 sells for $500 usaed or $600 new.
