Engine noise + water leak
Hi, I've searched for this before, but couldn't find anything anywhere.
I own a 2001 Neon ES with about 56k miles.
About 3 years ago, 1/10 times I turned the car on, you could hear a rattling noise coming from the fan, something metallic. It sounds like the fan is hitting something and it's loud. It happened about 1-2 times a year after a while. I brought the car to a mechanic and they could never find anything, not even the dealer. This weekend it started making noise again; when I accelerated it just became faster and remained just as loud. The sound ceased after I stopped the car and didn't come back...but it's worrying me again.
Like I said, neither the dealer or another mechanic could find anything. Has anyone had this? How did you fix it, what was it?
My second problem is that the floor on the driver's side gets wet when it rains a lot. This happens only when the car is parked. It gets so soaked, you can splash if you hit the floor. Again, I brought the car to a mechanic, to a glass place and to a body shop. No one could find anything. It's annoying because the car starts smelling after a while and it could start rusting the metal. The guy at the body shop had water raining over the car for 3 days straight and not a single drop went in. Any ideas?
I'd appreciate whatever help you guys could give me

About the water leak, dumb as it may sound, check your tail lights. Take you trunk carpet out or pull it back from the tail lights, dry the floor if it is wet and sprinkle foot powder on the floor. Check back often and if it leaks in it will be very easy to see. The rubber gaskets on my tail lights were shot, I simply put a bead of roofing tar caulking around the opening and put them back in. No more water problem.
Thanks for the reply. I've actually had to have one tail light replaced last year because my trunk looked like a pool. Now it's only the floor on the driver's seat. I'll give the powder or something similar a try, thanks for the tip.
Yeah the tail lights seem to bea problem on these cars. The water never stayed in the trunk, since our driveways has a slight slant, but it pooled in the back seat, and a little in the front, and seeing as it was winter when it started, I had 3/4" of ice on the back floor. Had to take all the carpet out and the rear seat, that's how wet it was. It was kind of fun, felt like driving a racecar, especially because I also had the center console and passenger seat out for a while. The car gets a lot louder too without the carpet, but I bet you lose a decent amount of weight, if you don't care about having carpet in your car. haha
I had that exact same problem. Whenever I braked, some of the water would leak to the carpet in front of the backseats. It took me a while to realize what it was. Thank god it wasn't in winter...that must've sucked for you.
No one knows what this engine noise is?
