Default Custom subwoofer box

Here's some pictures of the custom subwoofer box I built for myself. The finish isn't perfect by any means but paint and I don't get along and I got tired of constantly fiddling with it so I put it in as is. Still quite nice I think. You will probably notice right away that my 8" looks really small in there. This is because I had the 8" already, but am planning on upgrading to a 10" or 12", so I made the box big enough to accomodate that. In a couple of pictures you can see the corner of my Clarion amp which is mounted to the back of the rear seat. I like this setup because you can fold the seat down for easy access to the amp. By the way, the sub is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 2, and even just being an 8" it shakes the car quite nicely. And yes, my trunk needs vacuuming. :P

It's made out of fiberglass. My first attempt at fiberglassing anything, so I was a little worried, but it's fairly easy, just messy. First you tape off the carpet where you want the box to be and fiberglass a layer over the tape, then you pull that out and add more layers to that piece. Then you make the mounting ring out of MDF, and hot glue that in place with some braces (in my case some little pieces of wood). Then you stretch fabric over that and hot glue that in place, then soak it in resin. Add more layers to that then all you have to do is Bondo and paint for the finish. I think it probably took me the better part of a month to build, but I only gave it a couple hours a day, maybe 3 days a week. Happy to finally have it done, it sounds pretty good.

Well, the day after I got the box installed, I upgraded to a 10" JBL. Boy does it ever sound good. Here's pics of the new sub and one of the amp mounting location on the back of the rear seat. Need to get a grille for the new sub before it gets wrecked by something in the trunk.
