question on dash gauges...
I have an SE...with just the Speedo, gas and temp gauges..rest are idiot lights... I noticed on evil-bay, I could get a set of SXT-white faced gauges with the tach... but the back is just a special plug-in...
Is my plug the same? or even if it is, is the tach wiring there in my SE gauge plug?... or is the whole idea a bust...with totally different wiring and plug.... haven't torn things apart..yet... to even get a look at the back of things....

the gauge cluster should be acceptable. You will need to get it re-programmed to get it to read the right mileage and to work properly... but it will work i believe.
thanx!...so there is wiring built in to operate the tach, even tho I don't have one now....?
not that worried about the mileage, the one i found has about the same mileage as my car
anyone else have any experience with changing out gauges?

WHERE ON EARTH DOES ANYBODY KNOW do you get the GAUGE CLUSTER REPROGRAMMED. Talked to the Dealer, TRIED to talk to diamler chrysler customer service and haven't had any luck b/c I have an srt-4 gauge cluster that I can't install untill I have the right mileage and I'm not going to f somebody over by just switching mine in and out since I have low mileage.
I had the same cluster, with no tach. I bought an sxt cluster off ebay, and it worked well. The only problem, like mentioned before is the milage. I dont think there is a way to change the milage to the one you currently have on right now, luckily you said you found one with a close enough milage. I bought one that was way off. I had like 140,xxx miles and the sxt cluster i bought had like 30,xxx. The way i do it is just keep track of milage on the cluster and add it to the old milage i had on the other one. As far as installation, the whole cluster will work fine, its plug and play, so no wiring needs to be done. Good luck.
It's kinda wierd that dodge wouldn't offer this service, since it kinda allows more people to lie when selling the car does it not? I wish the mileage would just be stored in the main ecu so we wouldn't have to go through all this trouble.
reviving this month old post... finally took the plunge an got an SXT cluster off evil-bay for around $45..still, this one is pretty close to my mileage...
Question is, anyone have any tips on even starting to take apart the dash to get to replace the guage cluster? I have a friend who is a supervisor at a store that does car stereo/alarms, so am gonna try and hit him up to help me, but thought I could at least get a clue where to start? do ya have to go up under, or are there clips or screws somewhere on top? ...it a 2004 SE...

ok heres what you do
1) taks off the a-pillars by starting at the top and gently pulling so it realeases the clips
2) open both doors and unscrew the two screws on each side of the dash
3) unscrew the two screws in the vent for the defroster (its hard to get a screwdriver in there between the windsheild so try a phillips head driver bit for a drill and a vice grip)
4) push up on the dash from the front to release clips and slowly pull out. (be careful because there is a paddin underneath that mught get caught on something and possibly rip)
5) unscrew the two screws that are on the panel under the steering wheel to take that panel off carefully pull it to release clips
6) carefully pull out the plastic thingy by the gauges (black thing right above the steering wheel lower steering wheel for this)
7) i think its just some screws holding the gauge in but im not entirely sure ive never taken mine out ive just taken the whole dash apart.
it shouldn't be that hard after that i believe its just plug and play. good luck

It is 4 screws on the cluster, I just did mine. I was told you could have it flashed by a dealer..... some might not want to do it though. I had 100k on my car and now it has 19k...... i just keep track!
