once again, there truely isnt any benefit of havin rear disc brakes on a FWD car. Your front do most of the work ANYWAYS on a typical car. If you love to race (like im into some Auto Crossing), it saves weight and works better to stick with the rear drum brakes. Having discs... in all honesty, just makes the car heavier. They dont do much. I bring this up only becuase i see it as a waste of money in most cases. If you really want a rear disc setup... go ahead and build it. Just my 2 cents is that money could go elsewhere with a much bigger impact on handeling and driveability.

I will be honest, that's part of it, but also, if 4 wheel discs don't make that much difference, why do car manufacturers put them on most cars now? Rear discs make for a more complicated setup than drums.

Yeah rear discs are so worthless on FWD cars...that must be how the SRT-4, ACR, and R/T's brake from 60-0 in less than 120 feet...how strange that sounds similar to the braking distance of many BMW's, Audi's, and Lexus vehicles...

And whats the braking distance for a standard Neon? Well thats around 135 feet...not much really, but when you consider 15 or so feet could mean the difference between stopping quickly or getting in serious accident, well, anything and everything helps.



Plus, they look cool!

everyone has their own opinions. and thats why i still have drum brakes... So, its your car... do what you want. I didnt say you shouldnt.[&:]

I asked the original question, and I'm not trying to replace the system. Sounds like aside from the SRT I'm about topped out anyway as far as OEM goes, and I'm happy with the stopping power. I just want to replace the lines that go from the un sprung car to the calipers with braided stainless steel. I did this on my 91 SE-R and the brakes were as solid as anything I've ever felt and stayed that way for over a year with not maint, auto-x and all. I just want that feeling in this car. It's just a prefrence. I use my brakes as much as anything else so it's worth it to me. As for rear disks, what the hell difference does it make weather the car is FWD or not? My guess: If you take a car with rear drums to a driving school such as putnam park I bet you'd be fading badly. High speed brakeing on a road course will eat them alive.
