Manual Transmission noise
Hey, I am new to the forum, but a MOPAR freak none the less! I recently bought a 2003 neon with 75,000 miles on it and it has a chattering noise coming from the front of the car. 2 months prior to purchasing this neon, I had returned a 2002 neon with 50,000 miles that made the same noise. I have a friend with a 2002 neon, and her car makes the same noise. Is there some kind of problem that these cars are prone to having with manual transmissions in them? I am a technician with quite a few years of experience under my belt, but I havent had a chance to chase this noise yet. It must be a fairly common problem for three m/t neons to have the exact same noise! I would say it sounds like a failed bearing. It is only heard between 1500 and 3000rpm, under load. From what I understand the trans is a New Venture collaberation with GM. Any ways, I am sure that someone out there has had the same problem and figured out what it was. Your imput would be greatly appreciated!! I'll try to post some pics of my mopar fleet!! THANK YOU

I've posted a few questions about this stuff and didn't get alot of responce on the other site but haven't addressee it here. I have an 04 MT with 28K on it. It has a rough vibration below 2000 rpm under heavy load that smooths out imediately above 2K. I try to avoid sub-2K operation with the exception of 1st gear but some times I get there when I slow down and don't thing about it. It also has another noise that I would characterize as gear whine that I hear in the lower gears but I think that's just to less noise at lower speeds, probably always there. I changed fluid, and went synthetic, correct amount and all. Both noises are un effected. This is the only nean I have experience with so I don't know if either of these are the same or unique to my car. Hopefully not detrimental.
all neon egnines have a slight ticking noise. Unfortunately it means everything is working as it should. All motors have a small engine tick.[8D]
When exactly is this noise especially appearent?
