Default New Sound System Suggestions

Alright, I am thinking about putting in a new sound system in my 2005 Neon SXT. I want it to be loud and sound clear. I know good stuff isn't cheap, but I would like to get decent stuff at reasonable prices. I just wanted some suggestions on what to go with, from the deck to the speakers to the subs and amps. I don't really care about playing dvds but I would like to have an ipod hookup. Also, I'm not sure what size speakers are in the doors and on the dash. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As far as a head unit I would reccomend Panasonic. Mine was fairly inexpensive and sounds great. Many of their models offer iPod hookup and control with the separate cable. Crutchfield.com carries many of these and you can get a great head unit for $200 or less. Mine was $170 CDN from Canadian Tire (which means you'll find it cheaper elsewhere, but I didn't have much choice at the time). Crutchfield.com will also tell you what size speakers will fit your car, so I would just check there. For your subs, if you care about having any trunk space, I would reccomend a custom fiberglass enclosure like mine https://dodgeforum.com/m_556702/tm.htm It fills a spot that wasn't really that useful to begin with and keeps it out of the way. My sub is a 10" JBL ($130 CDN from Best Buy, 250 RMS) powered by a Clarion amp ($150 CDN from Base Electronics, 50x2 RMS, bridged to 100x1 RMS). It's not a massive system but it sounds great, and really pounds when I want it to. I'm still running the stock speakers so altogether my system has cost me $450 CDN. This is fairly inexpensive for a sound system really, and it sounds good. The stock speakers sound great so I'm not going to bother changing them for now.

If your wanting something that sound good while ur crusin, but would like to have that extra ump to show if with I recomment the kicker solobaric L7 12" with either a sx 1250.1 or 2 sx650.1 amps. If you go with the 1250.1 you'll need to get the 2ohm subs. 1250.1 is aprox 1450 watts rms. If you get the 650.1 you can use the 4 om subs. You can get all of the reasonably cheap on ebay. I've got the 1250.1 for about 500 new(retail about 1100) and my L7's for 350(retail about 700). I've had them for about 6 months and no probs. The great thing is with the square design the 12's have the same cone space and round 15's

the best head unti i have ever had or used had to be my old pioneer deh-p9300....well worth the $800.00 it cost me.....but you can find them on ebay for about 200.00 or less.......the head unit was amazing..it was almost impossible to make a cd skip...to bad sum punks stole it almost 2 years ago......
just remember.....when it comes to stereo stuff, you get what you pay for.....
in my durango i have a pioneer premier 670, a pheonix gold 1500.1 amp, and 3 kicker solo-baric L7 10's....i love this stereo and if it didnt sound so good in the rango, it would be in my car...
in my last neon i was running i was running my 9300 head unit, all audiobahn interior speakers, 2-500.4 orion x-treme amps running the interior speakers, 4-12" audiobahn flameQ subs which were ran by a 2400.1 audiobahn high current amp.....all 4 subs were ran at about .25-.5 ohms.....believe me, this was a loud *** stereo.....all for a total of about $2900.00....

if you decide to buy off the internet and want a tip, wait until about february to get a stereo, because alot of the stereo places get rid of last years models on closeout....

www.cardiscountstereos.com is an awsome place to buy if you decide to go audiobahn....which has awsome sound quality, i would recommend audiobahn flameQ 1206's...cheap and awsome lows....but thats just me

or theZeb has good stuff on closeout at the begining of the new year....

a friend of mine had a grandprix that had 5-12" audiobahn alums and 5-800.1 audiobahn class-d amps with a pioneer 9400 head unit....this car had the lowest lows i ever heard....i think we spent a about $5,000.00 on that one though....im pretty sure you dont wanna spend that much at all, but individually its all pretty cheap, these were just examples

good luck

Yeah, loud and clear. Well make sure to get quality. Now if you can get a couple of models up sub instead of 2 cheaper ones DO IT. The quality and clarity is worth it. Had a system once with the 2nd to top of the line Clarion head unit and matching 6 disc CD-changer, that went to a 1/4 din EQ and then to 2 subs. One for the fronts and one for the sub. Tuned and balanced could go from listening to the pages turn in classical music and then to Bass music and Hip-Hop, then off to Pop, Metal, and Country, and even Techno, still not touch the EQ and all sounded great. Balance it the key. Unless you are after a look. Then balance that into your equation. Heck I only ran an 8" sub(0.9 FT³ poly filled ported box) on 60 watts RMS and 4 watts RMS to the fronts. OK it was a Suzuki Swift but was too loud for people to sit in it cranked up.

you could get cheap interior speakers, subs, and amps.......quality all depends on the head unit you runs
