Default Shifter play

alright, something that i am having a real problem with now, theres a lot of play in my shifter, say im in first, i can move the shifter about an inch in either direction,

is there a way to reduce this without buying a new shifter/will a new shifter solve this? what do you think would be the cost of installation on a new shifter? what shifter do you reccomend?

also, i was thinkin about buying a new shifter ****, will an aftermarket one hook to the shifter the same way the stock one does?
(press down hard and turn)

most aftermarket shift ***** willnot mount the same as the stock ones.....most will use the set screws...

chances are it isnt the shifter, but the bushings......either the bushings at the bottom of the shifter handle, or where the cables hook to the trans(this is the most common spot)

good exuse to get the mopar STS, but i understand a budget. you can put an aftermarket **** on, such as the carbon fiber looking ones. just be careful not to go tooo cheap, as it will wiggle and come loose all the time worse than the stock one.

If there is a lot of play in it, I would try replacing the shifter bushings first. There is a lot of slop in the stock ones. I would recommend some booger shifter bushings. Two go on the tranny and two on the shifter linkage. As far as how much to replace your shifter....you can do it yourself. Its not hard. But if you did have a place install it, figure it will take them about 30 minutes to an hour. So whatever labor costs....figure that much. I did mine in 30 minutes myself.

its very easy to do yourself. you can install the booger bushings and a new shift **** in an hour easy. the worst part is getting those cables off your shifter.
