has tthis happened to anyone? Please help!
If you have a blocked cat then, yes, anyone like that will do. High flow cats are not a big advantage if you are strapped. The hand test is not valid. Your hand isn't callibrated and you have no idea what it should feel like when the car is working correctly, and I'm sure you want to convince yourself that this is the problem. Stay objective. Idle RPM is variable and would change how this feels. You can get a bypass test done at almost any exhaust shop or gamble that it is the cat and go with the one you mentioned. Hey there's antifreze in my engine too. (at least I hope).
well guys, thanks for the help and suggestions. I am taking my neon in tomorrow and i will tell them what i think it is (what was discussed in this thread). So i will post what they tell me and hopefully it isnt as serious as pep boys. I think i am taking it either to a goodyear or meineke. Hopefully i wont get too raped in price quote. If they tell me the same thing, i am taking it to a local engine shop, not one of the chains. Thanks again guys
Not knowing what year your car is (never dug that deep yet) I doubt your losing antifreeze through your motor unless you noticed white smoke coming out of your exhaust pipe. Check your antifreeze levels to be sure that is your first clue. Check your plugs, wires, fuel filter.
With your symptoms, I would suspect one of the above or where your getting your gas has a bad tank and getting bad gas (no, not too much refried beans
).
Start with the simple stuff first. Plugs are easy to remove and inspect.
Check your vacuum hoses too, vacuum hoses tend to go bad as well.
I don't think I heard you say you have an engine light, a bad cat will do that(usually). I bought a cheap engine code scanner and have diagnosed all of my woes on my cars without getting ripped by mechanics saying my engine is shot.
Just a thought
