What is with the brakes/rotors on these cars!?!?!?
Every Dodge that I have owned(90 Daytona-still own and probably will be buried in, 97 Neon-gone, 98 Dakota-gone,lemon,05 Neon-still own)has had brake and rotor problems. Is Dahmler-Chrysler doing something to correct this defect? The 05 Neon will be on the THIRD pair of rotors and the car only has 12k on it!!! The second pair, just replaced a few months ago were gratus because we caught the mechanic in a lie. I would love to change out the brakes and rotors to the Bendix brand like I did with my Daytona, but why should I have to PAY for THEIR defect? They are knowingly letting consumers ride on a bad braking system. Anyone else having this problem and if so, were you able to fight Chrysler into getting free brakes/rotors???
My dad's '01 Grand Cherokee has the same problems. It's got 146K on it and has had a god aweful amount of rotors replaced on it. My dad long ago read an article that said the problem with brakes on late model daimlerchrysler cars is that the rotor gets too hot too quickly; effectively warping the rotor. The article suggested useful either slotted or cross drilled rotors. We slapped cross-drilled on my dad's jeep and haven't had a problem yet.
Yeah crossdrilled and slotted rotors are the way to go with any car. That was the first thing i did to my 01 neon.24k later and i haven't had any problems.I have also found that acrylic pads seem to have the least amount of brake dust.
I have a 05 Nen and just did Brakes at 20K miles. Rotors ain't to bad.

Mine are warping at 29K. I havn't autox or anything on them. Kind of dissapointing. I don't care if it's a cheap car. The brakes should work. Expensive cars have more options, smoother more powerful engines, plush leather better seats, sterio. All cars should be able to stop without destroying themselves. I think I'll try Brembo non sloted/drilled. I've read pleanty of performnace lit that says drilling them just makes them weaker and street cars cannot benefit from this. Looks cool but so does the wing on a top fuel dragster but I'm not putting on my car. (it would look goooood on yours though)
What problem with the brakes? Mine work just fine. Over 40k on my stock rotors, no shaking when I stop. I did replace my stock pads about 12k miles ago. Stops very quickly for stock braking in my opinion. I have slotted/drilled rotors just sitting around waiting to be put on when my stock rotors wear out.
