Power Steering
I have a 2003 Neon on the left side of the engine bay is the power steering pump. Anyways the pump is losing fluid some how, i replace the cap because i throught thats how it was getting out. Does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem.
Look at the pump shaft seal and see if that leaking if not it is probably one of the lines, the cooler (on the subframe about center), or the rack is leaking. Look in the boots.
Clean the engine off and degrease it.
Then just turnt he engine on and give the wheel a good workout.
Kill the motor, then try and trace the leak by following the fluid to its exit point. Shouldnt be hard to do.

I have an 04 neon that has some powersteering problems
WHEN THE CAR IS COLD AND ITS FREEZING OUT SIDE ( well just COLD winter time) as soon as i start the car it makes NOISES like there is NO FLUID AT ALL and when i turn the wheel it squeeks like a ****, i open the hood, and it some how comes out from the CAP like there is presure in it and it explodes ( i dont actually see it comeing out but liqued everywhere)
But when i drive for a while and it all WORMS up its ok no noise no squeks wheel turns fine, Fluid is Full, and it starts normal too on Nice warm sunny days
who know where the problem is and how do i fix this cause winter is comeing up i gotta feeling my wheel wont even turn if it will be -5c

Would clean the are up real good (Brake clean etc.) then when dry have someone else start the car and have a looks see. You may know more then. You may need to flush your system or have a stuck valve in the rack.
Mine weep fluid from the bottom of the yoke area of the rack (where the steering column attaches).

nah man you see it works fine when its WORM outside nice , starts perfect no sounds
it only does that when its COLD outside , and when i start it and wait till the car warms up its back to normal no sounds no nothing

Hey, I have the same problem with the noisy pump during cold weather. I tried replacing the pump a couple of times but that did nothing. I found some information from Dodge. It is typical for a Neon to have this problem in cold weather. I checked my fluid today (15 degrees F outside) and is looks like syrup. I found a site that offers some tips on what to do to help quiet it down a little. The info is for 95 to 98 but I am sure the same still applies for an 04. Basically, you can also go to a synthetic Power Steering fluid that will stay thin at low temps. That is what I did and it helped a lot. The Technical Service Bulletin acutally gives a Mopar part number for a fluid that will help. Go to Neons .Org and look for the 95-99 TSB's listing (its under the 96 SOHC listing - 19 Steering and then 190398)
I hope this helps and good luck!
