Hi folks. I have a 2002 Neon RT. Basically, when the car is at idle, there seems to be a knocking noise coming from the engine (passenger side). It seems worse in the cold weather. Any ideas? Is this normal?
Totaly normal. It is your fuel injectors. Open the hood and you can pretty much trace it down to the injectors. As long as it is not loud. It is just a faint..... clicking! I would not worry, all neons have it!
I wouldn't say it was really loud. I had always thought it was normal until someone pointed it out. You can hear it when in the car with everything off - e.g. radio etc., and it seems to go away when the car has warmed up. If it were a loud noise, what would it indicate
I notice a ticking when I start my sxt up in the morning. Goes away after it warms up. I just figured it was the lifters or valve springs/guides which needed oiling. Once the engine warmds up, it goes away.
If its a ticking noise its just normal valve train noise or your fuel injectors. Some people have had luck eliminating (or reducing) the valve train noise by switching to higher quality oils such as Royal Purple...but as far as i know there is no way to get rid of the injector tick (on stock injectors that is).
