oil
Well its time for an oil change, i have read all of the previous post about oil and well, most of your cars have low miles. My car has around 150k miles so im wondering if all those oil types you peeps mentioned apply the same for my car, if not what would be the best for my car? thanks.
My car is comming up on 49,000 miles and i am going to change the oil with royal purple synthetic oil. Which weight would be best for my car considering the mileage, 5w-30 or 10w-30? Also i live in Florida.
Hey guys I would recommend a trip to the BITOG and yeah you'd have to register and all but no biggie and really look around.
From what we are seeing with UOA (Used Oil Analysis) if you keep it to 3M/3K OCI (Oil Change Interval) it won't matter much at all. All the SM/GF-4 oils perform pretty darn well and sometimes outperform Synthetic on that interval. Havoline conventional has a small loyal cult following right now (hinging on the results of new Deposit Shield formula Virgin Oil Analysis) but really even this is parsing results in the noise level of the tests.
Pick your favorite brand and be happy.
Stick to 0W-20, 5W-20 for 2005 cars
Stick to 0W-30, 5W-40, and 10W-30 for earlier Neons.
FYI all SM/GF-4 oils are Group II (Higher quality base stocks some call Semi-Synthetic).
Almost all synthetics are now GPIII (SUPER highly refine crude) even Mobil1.
10W-40 still tends to be old Group I stuff not so good.
If you just have to have a thicker oil to make you feel good the Castrol 0W-30 Made in Germany is almost 40 Wt and still GroupIV.
Royal Purple seems to settle down after several fill as does Redline but even then their effectiveness as a daily driver oil in a regular engine is SO-SO.
If you really like synthetic (I once absolutely SWORE by it-now not so much) then Pennzoil Platinum is about the GRPIII base stock made with great additive pack and awesome UOA results to back it up and almost 2 bucks a qt less than the almighty M1 and lots of people say it seems to be quieter running too.
