Default noobish question about intake . . .

Here's the scoop. I just went out and picked up a K&N drop in filter. I noticed something odd about it, it's got a hose clamp on it. Now here is my question, I installed it without the top of the airbox, or the snorkel installed, it's just sitting in there without anything holding it short of the hose clamp, and the bottom bracket of the airbox, will this be a bad thing? I attempted to move the filter around, it won't budge, so I assume it won't just plop out when I hit bumps, etc. Will it? Will this harm my engine in any way? I've been driving with the snorkel deleted for about 5 months now, with no adverse effects, so I don't think that part will hurt the engine.

BTW, I love the way it sounds now - sounds really throaty, kinda like a CAI . . . I never thought $55.00 at Murray's would be so well worth it (not to mention, it pulls a little harder now.)

Edit: It's a 2003 Dodge Neon SE (With an SXT conversion from a donor car.)

It's made to just have a snug fit so that it wont pop off like you said, you'll be fine, but just go ahead and buy and CAI off ebay for the pipeing you might as well. But then u would need to clamp the fliter somehow. Oh well, just remeber that you're not going to run into any issue doing what your doing now, had mine like that for about a month like a year and a 1/2 ago.

Its safer then an actual CAI. I had mine like that for probably a year or possibly more.
