Default Overheating

I was driving my 05 neon today and it started to overheat. I don't have no heat at all. Do you think the thermostat went bad?

this normally means you have a leak somewhere and have and air pocket
getthe antifreeze levelchecked before you cook the engine

If I have a leak I never smelled AntiFreeze and I should have. The coolet level seems fine.

you got no heat inside the car and the engine overheats the level's got to be down
if you rev it up you may notice you get some heat inside then it cools off again that would be an air pocket caused by a leak
by a leak it maybe just a small one but over time
loose hose clamps ? are a good start to check and snug them up
i cant see on a 2005 the water pump being worn out but thats possible
lack of curculation

well I replaced the thermostat and the old one was hard as hell to open and rusty. I flushed the system and it came out brown and looked like mud. Overall I have heat now but the gauge is all over the place meaning it goes up and down to the 2nd line but never over heats.
