Default 00 Neon

Got a 00 neon 2.0 in it.. got it and the timing belt was broke and it warped the valves.. whats the damage here? the head is already off the car. do i need to just replace the valves and timing belt? If i need or want to pull the block out and say rebuild it while its broke down how would i need to go about doing that? what i mean is do i need to pull tranny and all or would it be easy just to pull it away from the tranny since its just the block? never poped out a fwd engine before.. any pointers about this problem im having a hard time understanding would be great about now..

I can’t see any advantage to pulling the engine out of the car unless there are problems with the bottom end. If you put it up on jack stands and remove the passenger wheel and the plastic access panel it gives good access to the engine and timing belt area. Pick up a Haynes manual it has all the timing belt information and head bolt torques etc. You will have to place a floor jack under the engine as a temporary support. You should also replace the timing belt tensioner and the water pump. I would suggest normal duty locktite on the tentioner mounting bolts.

I would recommend taking the head to a machine shop to have the new valves fitted and to check if the head is warped. If they had it fluxed for cracks I’m surprised they didn’t do the valves at the same shop.

Good luck, it’s always fun trying to reassemble an engine someone else disassembled.

yeah.. they have a head shop in my town ill take it down there and see what vavles need replacing.. they have takin the motor apart and i hate going behind somebody trying to figure out what goes where.. i have the autozone all data program that tell me some things about it.. but they have got the car sitting and they have let the motor down almost hitting the ground and all that there is the block and tranny and all the other stuff.. the heads in the trunk. i didnt pay but 200 bucks for the car so i could see havin to do all this would be worth it for a 2000 model
