i have a 2005 neon sxt. i am trying to take the oem shifter out to put a short shifter in. i can't figure out how to take the shifter out. the bottom of the shifter were i hooks up to the cable thats what i need to know how to take it off

There are clips that hold the shifter cables to the shifter assembly, you'll have to pull those clips out (use need nose pliers or something similar), they will be very hood to pull off, but they will come out. Once you get the clips off the cables should just "pop" off...
