engine code help!
I have a neon 2000 5 spd, havent driven it in a couple months, like since november, so more than a couple. and i was driving it tonight, and the cel came on. so i did the on off on off on off on thing and got two codes, but the description doesnt tell me much. here they are.
P1684 Driver 5 Line 4 P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1
Thanks in advance. Also, my multi switch(that controls head lights high beams fog lights...) has been a little odd tonight, when i signal right,(didnt notcie when signaling left) the fog lights come on, lights and on dash indicator. and they turn off when I stop signaling. the lights work fine when turning them on correctly, dont know if this is related to the error P1684.

Chrysler code P1684 simply means the battery was disconnected within the last 50 key starts.[/b]
The P1684 driver 5 Line 4 is a General Motors code according to my OBDII code book.
P0171[/b] Fuel Trim System Lean Bank [/b]
[/b]
1. check all vacuum lines and intake manifold for leaks.
2. check fuel pressure. too low fuel pressure. clogged injectors .
3. check O2 sensors with scan tool or millimeter: front O2 sensor before the cat should fluctuate between .1 to .9 volts
4. check MAP sensor
5. leaks in exhaust system
Suspect upstream O2 sensor weak.

**EDIT** I use a K&N air filter, the kind that you oil, could that be the cause of the MAF(i believe its maf not map)sensor to be dirty, causing the code to be displayed, if so I could clean it off?
I read this on http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...gen-sensor.php
Causes A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: [ul]The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiledThere could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.[/ul]
The Neon's use a MAP sensor not a MAF sensor. I've read elsewhere that the upstream O2 sensor and or it's wiring (damaged or contaminated with oil is a possible cause of this code).
FYI the OBDII codes that state with P0*** are generic codes that apply to all makes. The ones that start with P1*** are manufacturer specific and can be used for different things by each manufacture. The P1684 is a good example of this.
