Default Tread depth question

When the Mechanic tells me my treads depth is 7/32, what does this mean? Sorry i am not good with cars yet...

i think he meant what 7/32 meant maybe 7/32 or an inch?

New car tires are approximately 10 to 12/32" deep when new.

Traction TA's come in at 10/32 of an inch.
Most tires are 11/32 of an inch.

7/32" means you have good tread left. If you have say 30K on your tires then you have about 30K left give or take some. When you get down to 4/32" start planning on tires. Consider 3/32" worn out.
