that might be debatable. you realize dodge dudes truck has a 6.6L engine in it? it might be hard to determine if that 400 in his 76 has been modified in the last 37 years. i would also guess the 76 weighs less which could help it take off better if it was towing something.

If I want to floor it I have to foot brake it to get the rpm's up, but it's strong.
you can't guaranty that is is stock unless you tear the engine apart and find out. you would be surprised how many people i have seen thought they had stock engines until they tore the engine down and found 0.030 stamped on the piston.
you just need to learn to tune your truck. once you get it tuned it won't have that problem.

One of the reasons I'm seriously considering expatriating to South America when I retire.

I was looking at the accelerator pump arm on various places online, seems the linkage can be part of the problem.
I think I lost a race to a 1st Gen Dakota V8. I was haulin' butt at 60 and this little Dakota comes flyin by, it stayed neck n neck but she pulled ahead. damn little truck probably weighs as much as my front end.
Several years ago some rednecks in a beat up 1st gen Dak tried to race my dad, he got pissed when they wouldn't let him over so he dusted them.
I really didn't give much effort to get in front, but I have a feeling she could have took me anyway.. 1st Gen Dakota can't be that heavy...
1st gen dakotas arent really all that impressive.. Unless they have work done.. Most of them I have run across got dusted.. There was 1 that I always seemed to see in the morning when leaving work and we would always race down the highway.. He always dusted me... Found out a few weeks later at a car show when I saw him that his 408 gave him that extra advantage... Only 2nd gen dakota I raced was my buddies 5.9 dakota.. and he would pull on me everytime we raced.. I am proud to say though that I pull hard on 4.7 1500's all the time.. I can also beat a 5.7 Hemi up to about 50mph.. From 50 to about 105 he is ahead.. Then I can reel him back in and pass lol
