here's an off topic item, check out my lawnmower mod.
this is what boredom and a can of spray paint will get ya.
on the subject of lawn care, does anyone know anything about chainsaw running problems? purpl maybe?
i just read some classic viper too, found out he's in the navy. that just makes the navy look bad. what a d-bag.

Am I being referred as the DF OPE Specialist? maybe I am because as soon as I saw that tractor(I dont see a mowing deck!) I knew it was a MTD. I'm not really much on 2-strokes but I do know that they are extremely sensitive to what kind of mix you use.

good call on the mtd. i believe its a 1991.
thats my yard trailer puller until i get a set of blades and a belt for it, i've got my dads mower and a dr mower so this one doesn't really need to cut. i only gave 100$ for it and it'll crank and run like a champ. the ignition switch was bad, the battery dead and the tires were flat when i got it. after a new battery, an oil change, inner tubes and a switch off a broken down murray its good to go.
i use 50:1. i've got a couple poulans, just returned a husqvarna because it was junk and i just got a mcculloch timber bear off a friend.
the poulans both like to bog down when i get into a cut and they also bog down for a minute or two when i hit the gas after a cold start.
one of them decided that it wanted to beat the crap out of the chain where it runs in the channel on the bar, almost as if i stopped the chain and the gear beat it up but i had the chain tight and i had just put a new gear on it. wierd, still can't figure that one out.
the mcculloch likes to die as soon as i get it hot. it seems like the best running out of the three (most torque) but after a minute when it gets good and hot it will just die (after a smoke show from the bar oil on the motor).
the mcculloch hasn't been run in about 15 years so i may just need to run a couple tanks of gas through it before it'll run right. i cleaned the whole thing up and let some straight gas soak in the tank for a day before i put some mix and fresh bar oil in for the initial start. i'm gonna pick up an e3 spark plug for it today also and see if that helps.
as you can see, i don't have the best luck with chainsaws. i'm thinking i should have bought a stihl instead of the husky.

That was a good deal on that tractor! Even if it is a MTD LT (BTW I hate them!!)! My dad and I almost picked up a 2006 Craftsman GT-5000 for $350 a week ago. It had a 48'' deck, 25HP Kohler COMMAND!!!, and was hydro drive. It was on Craigslist for 10 hours before it sold...
I've got a 2004 eXmark Turf Tracker HP (Walk behind Gravely style) that I'm selling for a buddy, Offer him $3500.
You know that Poulan is made by Husquvana? At least I know that is true with their tractors and mowers. Craftsman, Poulan, Poulan Pro, and Husquvana is all made by Husquvana. I dont know if this is true for chainsaws but I'd put money on it. My family and everyone I know has had good luck with Stihl equipment. I dont know many people that own Echo equipment but my dad and I looked at new weed eaters and backpack leaf blowers and the prices were pretty good.

I own both a weed whacker and blower from Echo that were purchased back in the '80s when I had a lawn care business in Miami. I still have them both today and they still run great. Echo was a popular brand with landscape pros back then.

Well, I'm sure that a Weed-Wacker (brand) would last forever the way you take care of things. I need to check in at the Sthil dealer to see what the prices are there. May just end up getting the Sthil because there are 2 dealers within 5 mins of the new house to make it eaiser to get parts, and oil.
Anything is better than the $85 Ryboi that my dad bought in 1995. The damn thing has a fuel line leak and takes 20 pulls to start.
Anybody see the new propane trimmers? I think Sears sells them. May look into those, too.

Global Warming my A$$
Well, I just snowed like hell today out here in Colorado. It's common to get snow above 13,000' in the summer, but we got it down here @ 6,000'!! Al Gore is full of ****. Should drive the elk down though, should be a good season.

my dad just got a craftsman with a brand new 15hp kohler motor for 400$ and it only needed a valve stem and the bearings on the blades.
his might have more power but mine is twice as fast (especially now that i have the racing stripes, thats 10 more horses right there).
that mcculloch took about 10 pulls before it started (after sitting for 15 years). then a while later when i went to test it on a tree it took one pull with the choke on and one pull with it off before it started so it seems to be better than the other saws.
silver, i bet that snow makes the elk a little easier to track if you're aim isn't spot on.
we got a couple inches of snow last year, for the first time in a few years. every year i say that i want about 3 or 4 feet because i haven't been able to play in the snow with the dodge since i got it in 04.
