finally got the truck to run!

Default finally got the truck to run!

Well last week i was thinkin about what i was going to do with the truck. I decided i had nothing to lose so i went out and drilled a couple holes in the converter, and it ran much better! It now starts and idles on its own and revs up a bit. it does knock i a bit and shuts off sometimes when idling. My dad thinks the timing could be off but since there are only 4 small holes in the converter it obviously still isn't breathing real well so i'm not sure. I'm going to have it towed to a garage this week hopefully so they can gut the converter and inspect the rest of the truck to tell me what it needs. I know that the front part of the chassis has to be repaired but besides that im hoping thats it. so basically i got a free truck because the converter was plugged and the garage my uncle had it towed to couldn't figure it out.

i wouldnt leave those holes in there, patch them after the "gut" or get a new hi-flow one.

lol i'm thinking if get it put on the road im gonna cut off the exhaust right before the muffler and just run the gutted cat, either that or put on a cherry bomb glasspack.

For a second, I thought you were talking about the torque converter...then I thought about it and said duh, catalytic converter!!!

haha i wouldn't be drillin no holes in the torque converter.

Only way the timing could be off is if the distributor was turned, computer (or some sensor) is fried, or the timing chain is worn out. Without a programmer, you cannot adjust the timing on these trucks.

I'd take care of the exhaust issue, like you are planning, and then move onto other possible (additional) solutions.

yeah i think thats the best solution also. besides im not going to be messing with timing anyway so i'll let the garage take care of it. My dad's friend is bringing over a diagnostic thing to check to see if it has any codes on it so i might be back needing translations.
