Wow...100mph!

My truck went 85 once. It was on I-40 westbound, outside of albuquerque, going down a big grade with a tailwind. Pedal to the metal. Never forget the thrill.

I'm just glad there wasn't a reason to stop quickly.

Back in the day my '97 1500 used to get beat by a Ford 5.4 at the mud drags. Everyone hated to race him, until I found out his reaction time (after he beat me 2 for two on his way to a class win) from the timer. I couldn't believe my reaction time!
I got to run him in a grudge match later that day. Tree'd him like an old racoon and beat him by a fender length. I became the guy he hated to race.
Good times, good times...

Wrong.

Limiter is set around +-118 and I've hit 120 in my 1997 without parts "exploding".

I actually have video of the ram around somewhere doing well over 100... Don't know where it is now though. I'll look.

IIRC, there was a discussion once a while ago about speed limiters. It seems that it varied model year to model year, some being as low as barely above 100, others being as high as 115-ish.

Regardless, a tuner takes care of that problem.

I drive a 2wd so its a little different but I have had the speedo pegged a couple of times truck handles it well but even I know if something goes wrong at that speed theres not much I can do....run the truck around 85 to 90 monthly just to keep everything in check, and make sure no vibrations show up

as for top speed, my 06 can cruse a 100mph, 110 mph is pushing her, 115 to 120 can be down, but my truck don't like it. I won the lottery that day, cheated death, and the thrill don't last long.

being a 3/4 ton gas, my truck has more power than you will ever need on the top end, all i have done to my truck is a true dual ex, Im sure a hemi 1500 short box reg cab 2wd could hit 130 mph, but I will not be driving it.

Mine starts feeling like its floating around 90 so there is no way I'd try over a 100.Weird a 5000lb truck feels floaty.

Back in 98 as a one year old my 97 cruised through Montana with sustained speeds of 100 with no problems. She went to 120 just to see if she could, but I was in a caravan with a GMC that was governed just over 100. It was fun to pull ahead just long enough to make my budy call on the CB and admit he couldn't keep up. The only thing that was scarry about it was how cruising at 100 seemed after a few minutes to be so normal that you had to remind yourself not relax.

As for now.. parts might just come off.. but I no longer feel it reasonable and prudent to go that fast and I believe neither does the state of montana.

ive always wondered about limiters and such. mine gets pegged at 99/98 and will just sit there. ive driven chevy's whose governors will kick you back down, but the dodge just sits there wont even do anything past 99.

im wanting to get a SCT so hopefully that will fix it. my old dodge stratus would do 118, i want my truck to do that

ive got a 99 1500 4x4 with the 318 and 265,000 km's on it. i owned a a 01 silverado 4x4 by 3 car lengths and he had the 5.3 in it. ive also had my ram up to 150 km/h(dont remember what it is in mp/h) without a problem on 33's. unfortunatly now its time for an engine swap since i blew a rod off-roading a week ago
