$1.21 per litre, = $4.59 / gal 87 octane, and we pump the facken oil out of the ground in our back yards here lol..

 

I've always wondered why it's higher in Canada than in the states. Do you guys have some sort of retardedly huge tax or something? Seems like Canada sits on a large amount of the black stuff... then again, I live ~20 miles from some of the largest oil refineries in the nation, and it hasn't had an effect the skyrocketing price of fuel... 3.79 today.

 

1.37 per litre here in Gatineau Quebec. thats 5.20 per gallon...

 

i've also wondered the same thing. my sister live out in Alberta not too far from the oil rigs and she is paying about the same prices we pay here in Ontario. you would think since she lives so close to where the oil comes out of the ground the price of gas would be cheaper by more than 10 cents/L.

 

it is purely tax driven what your fuel costs. The oil is sold to the refineries at a set price and made into fuels etc..., the canadian federal gov't has taxes on the fuel, plus your provincial gov't also places tax on the same fuel, and oh ya don't forget the GST lol. Often enough the only thing that may make a difference in price is the transportation cost to get fuel to the station. This is why the US typically has cheaper fuel than us....... less taxes and more refineries set up where they are not trucking the fuel halfway across the country.

In a word, Yes, we do have higher taxes here but that is only 1 part of it.

I converted it out on a US gal of gas to be $1.20 in taxes. But the way things have been going, the price at the pump has little to do with how much oil we have up here or crude oil price. Do I think we are being gouged? Big time. Very few refiners here, only about 4 that I can think of in the country vs many stateside. We are simply getting hosed!

Yes we have got more of the black stuff than we will ever use even if we all drove mid 90's Dodge P/Us but it doesn't make it any cheaper.

There are more than 4 refiners in Canada, we have 3 in edmonton alone, i agree on the gouging, there should be a govmnt board that reviews this type of commodity like it does with power etc..

 

4.35 for the 87 in soldotna AK. So much potential oil here too! ill be paying 4.65 for the 90 when i get the mopar pcm in. Oh boy oh boy. Ill see how long this lasts. My truck required me two pick up a second job last winter. Man i just love my gas guzzler. gas steadily goin up by day or week it seems. Makes me want to use bad words....

 

seems like alaska and canada has similar fuel aperances. A numbingly huge number of gallons in the earth but such high taxes and costs. WTF! well we are kinda bordering neighbors.. HELLO there!

 

Dont complain, we pay roughly about $6.20 p/g this side of the world but our neibours who get their fuel from us pay about $5.00 (They dont pay the taxes that we have to)
